Iron Pearls
“Iron Pearls tells the powerful story of a woman who forged her path in the male-dominated world of blacksmithing, establishing herself over a 40-year career. More than just an artist profile, the documentary dives deep into the messaging behind Brim’s work, which often satirizes her genteel Southern upbringing while offering pointed commentary on gender identity, inclusion, and the boundaries of craft and fine art. Through interviews with artists, curators, and collectors, the film brings to light Elizabeth Brim’s influence across disciplines and generations.”
Filmed between 2022 and 2025, shooting this film was a life-changing experience for me. I was fortunate enough to work with director E. Vincent Martinez, my friend and mentor, as we documented Elizabeth’s amazing work and the devotion she brings to her craft.
Spending time in her studio was a reminder of the subtle power of art molded by hand: the patience, the presence, and the small decisions that shape each piece. This film is, at its heart, a reflection on the enduring value of artists who devote themselves fully to creativity.
This premiered in 2025 at the Tryon International Film Festival to a sold out crowd.
